The 3rd Annual Project Access Charity Golf Tournament set for June 12 at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine, is helping a great cause.

That’s because nonprofit Project Access is a leading provider of vital health, education and employment services annually to nearly 10,000 families, children and seniors at more than 45 Resource Centers in low-income housing communities in California and Colorado.

“We’re pleased that Project Access is clearly making a difference, though much remains to be done,” CEO & President Kristin Byrnes said.

For example, while the national dropout rate among high school students is 13.5 percent, Project Access worked to ensure that 2,119 children were reading at or above grade level, and while more than 25 percent of low-income adults are obese due to a lack of health education, Project Access made sure that 4,963 family members had access to much needed health resources.

“We depend upon additional funds raised at events like the golf tournament to fulfill our mission to help our clients achieve self-sufficiency and maximize their full potential.”

The tournament features a chance to win a hole-in-one car provided by Newport Lexus, cigar rolling, craft beer and premium tequila, and a professional long drive exhibition. Afterward there’s a reception, dinner and awards presentation, plus silent and live auctions and opportunity drawings.

“We thank our generous sponsors and volunteer tournament Chairman James Reed for his dedication.”

But the real story of success is behind the numbers and in the positive changes made in the lives of those assisted.

Shaping the letter “n” and the number “3” challenged a timid preschooler when she joined her Resource Center’s after-school program. After much encouragement and many one-on-one tutoring sessions, she has not only turned her letters and numbers around; she’s turned from being a shy child into one who is more independent, loves to learn and to help others.

“I was depressed, and everything hurt. I found myself crying because many of my clothes no longer fit,” said a 44-year-old mother of two. Her outlook on life and the way others see her changed profoundly after she began attending nutrition and exercise classes at her Resource Center.

You can help. “All donations help keep family members employed, children in school and seniors active and empower staff and volunteers to eliminate barriers, close the gap and set our residents up for long-term success. Together, we can change lives!”
